Sewing Machine Abuse

Is a workshop where I teach how to make the domestic sewing machine stitch in ways you’d think it isn’t supposed to. Stitch with anything from sewing thread to string to wire. Stitch on anything from fabric to paper to air. Your imaginations is the only limiting factor. On examining fabric samples from this workshop a participant’s spouse was heard to cry out quite erroneously, “Honey, there’s something wrong with your sewing machine!”

NEWS: Next chance to attend this workshop - February 2020, on Saltspring Island. Use the contact button to register your interest.

Stitch on Nothing and With Nothing

Use a domestic sewing machine to stitch across space and into unusual surfaces. To create lace-like structures that can be two dimensional to create your own ‘open-weave’ fabrics, or textured surfaces that can be molded into 3D. Create individual elements to be used in appliqué or to hang freely in space. Incorporate materisls from sheer fabrics to sheets of metal to put exciting elements in your designs.
